The mission of the church and school are those given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ in the Great Commission:
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matt. 28:19).
Salem Lutheran School is Salem Lutheran Church as it disciples its students and families. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we continue to bring to maturity those who have been baptized and, to the unbaptized, proclaim salvation by grace through faith in the life, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Romans 10:17, Deuteronomy 6:6-8, 27, and 4:2).
The members of Salem Lutheran Church adopt the following as their basis for, and commitment to, the carrying out of this God given mission:
"It is the will of our Lord Jesus Christ that His Gospel should be preached to the whole world to the end that all nations may become His disciples in the fellowship of His church. Therefore, our Savior calls His people out of the kingdom of Satan into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. He gathers them as a new people around the Word and Sacraments (Baptism and the Lord's Supper) in Christian congregations. Here they grow in the faith, hope, and love by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Gospel. In response to the Gospel and in obedience to God's inerrant Word, Christians express their love to God in worship and loving service. In order that God's church may grow, we, the members of Salem Lutheran Church, pledge ourselves, our time, our gifts, and our talents to these purposes under the norm and guidance of the Holy Scriptures as God's written Word and according to the Lutheran Confessions as a true exposition of these Scriptures."
In order to carry out this mission, Salem Lutheran Church has established a Christian Day School, working with the same purposes, and with the same doctrinal commitment as the congregation itself. All subjects are taught in accordance with Lutheran theology, in a way compatible with the practices of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod with which it is affiliated. Salem also believes, in accordance with Scripture, that Christian education begins with Christian parents and that the primary agency for the Christian education of children is the Christian home, for the Bible says: "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4, see also Deuteronomy 6:4 9) The most effective Christian education takes place when parents understand the Christian philosophy of education and they practice these Christian principles.
These principles are drawn from Scripture and center on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
