Summer Camp: June 1, 2009 - July 24, 2009
Week 8: July 20 - 24
Since this is the last week of camp 2009, it is very fitting that we should have a lot of “last” things happening this week.
I'm the only state that is actually a group of islands, 132 islands in all, but only 7 of my islands are inhabited. On August 21, 1959 I became the last stat to join the United States of America. My islands were formed by volcanoes; and I have one of the world's most active volcanoes. My big island keeps growing as the lava from the volcanoes creates new land at the ocean's edge. Besides the alphabet the rest of the states use, I have my own special alphabet that has only 12 letters. These letters are a, e, h, i, k, l, m, n, o, p, u, and w. Aloha is a word you hear a lot in my state because it means both hi and good-bye. Hula dancers are popular forms of entertainment, each hula dance tells a story. I am known as the Aloha State. I am Hawaii. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Monday - SWIM DAY! DON'T BE LEFT OUT IN THE HEAT, COME Get WET WITH US! WHERE? Belle Meade Country Club: Time 10:00-12:00. There are lifeguards on duty at all times. All children knowing how to swim will be given a swim test. Your child must be able to swim the width of the pool without any type of assistance or flotation device to be considered a "swimmer". If for any reason your child is unable to do this he/she will be classified a "non-swimmer" and will be required to wear an American Cross/Coast Guard approved life jacket, (yes this means no floaties) and stay in the roped off area or wading pool with our summer camp counselor's. Any child not knowing how to swim must bring an approved life jacket. These are the pool rules and I will gladly enforce them; with that said, there will be no exceptions to this rule! Please apply sunscreen, and send a regular size bath towel (no beach towels, children tend to trip over the added lengths), and don't forget a complete change of clothes, including a camp shirt and underwear. Come to camp with your swimsuit on under your clothes. Everyone is required to wear a camp shirt over his/her swimsuits even while swimming, if you forget your extra camp shirt one will be provided and the cost will be added to your weekly bill! Girls that have completed 1st grade must wear one-piece swimsuits; girls Pre-K through Kindergarten may wear two piece swimsuits (this will help for bathroom trips). Label ALL ITEMS with your child's name especially Camp shirts (they are all the same).
THINGS TO BRING:
BATH TOWEL
COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHES, (underwear)
EXTRA CAMP SHIRT SWIM BAG OF SOME TYPE TO HOLD ALL YOUR STUFF!
An American Cross Approved life jacket, IF NEEDED.
Remember to wear your suit to camp under your clothes. Label all your belongings...REPEATING... LABEL ALL YOUR BELONGINGS!
